Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

My plan for the capstone project is to help the homeless. I will help serve breakfast every Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 am at South Church in Hartford. I will be hosting my own breakfast on Saturday, March 14, 2020, and asking for participants from my senior class. My biggest reason for wanting to work with the homeless is because it is a serious problem in the United States. The amount of times one person walks by a homeless person begging for change is both alarming and heart-wrenching. I want to do more than spare some change. I want to hand them food and drinks and I want to influence others to do the same.

My research question is: How can people help the homeless physically, emotionally, and mentally? I will also be researching the factors that lead to homelessness. As someone who will be going to these breakfasts and seeing first-hand how many there are that need support; that need a warm breakfast and safe shelter. I will be collecting pictures as proof of my connections and donations to the homeless cause. These will serve as my artifacts.

I have asked Vicki Silva from Sparrow Ministries to be my mentor. My learning stretch would be improving my communication skills, becoming more involved, and making connections with people within my community.

Sincerely,

Minela Guster
